On Vacation

I will be on vacation from July 12, 2010 through July 24, 2010 with no access to the Internet. My wife and I will be touring part of Alaska and taking a cruise on the Celebrity Millennium from Alaska to Vancouver.

Options will expire while I am on vacation. I will write about my July results after I return.

ISP Attacked

My ISP, Time Warner Cable, has been hit by hackers for much of this week with the result that I have had only intermittent access to the Internet. I’ve been able to make several trades but very little writing about them here. I’ll try to catch up over the next couple of days…if I can.

Laying Low for the Season

I did sell a Put yesterday (see prior post), but basically I plan to be mostly inactive until the middle of next week. It is not a normal trading week anyway and what with one thing and another I don’t expect to have much time to think about it right now anyway. I am also hoping that there will be additional volume and rising prices next week.

My wife, one adult son and I are planning to travel to Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco), Mexico for a few days after Christmas. One of my brothers-in-law reached the venerable age of 50 last week and thought that he would like a family gathering to help him celebrate. About 30 of the family will oblige him. Although I will try not to I expect that I will eat too much, drink too much and not get enough sleep. It should be fun.

Back From Vacation

My wife and I are back from vacation. I drove about 4000 miles last week going from Southern California as far east as Bella Vista, Arkansas, making some stops along the way both going and returning.

The primary reason for the trip was to be at the 80th and rumored to be last Thanksgiving family reunion of my mother’s family. The rumor turned out to be correct. There will be an attempt to create an annual summer reunion. It would be a shame if something didn’t continue to happen.

We took a side trip on the way home to stop at the Grand Canyon for lunch. We’ve been there several times but this was the first time we’d been there alone. We had lunch at the El Tovar Hotel. The hotel was built around 1905 with the restaurant being added sometime later. Our purpose in visiting the canyon and hotel was really for the lunch. As it turned out we need not have bothered. The service was poor, the food slow to arrive and when it did it was lukewarm at best. It would have been rather tasty if it had been hot. I just read several reviews of the hotel and restaurant and discovered that our experience was not unique.

I recommend that if you happen to visit the Grand Canyon that you make arrangements to dine someplace other than at the El Tovar Hotel.

I will be on vacation next week with limited Internet access. I have several trades to write about that were made for me by the margin department at E*Trade (again) but I am afraid they will need to wait until I get back.
