Another New Template

I was not real happy with the last template. It seemed to have some display bugs and, in general, just wasn’t doing it for me. This template was created by Lisa Sabin-Wilson, the author of WordPress for Dummies. I’m going to try this one out for awhile and see how I like it.

New Tagline

You may notice that I changed the tag-line in the blog heading. I decided that the previous tag-line was a little misleading, suggesting that I was to rely entirely upon my stock and option activity for my “retirement” income. While that has been pretty much true since I “retired” in April of 2005 it has never really been my intention. After all, we are talking about the stock market with all of the uncertainties that entails.

At some point I intend to monetize this site and to create other monetized sites. I believe in the philosophy of multiple stream of income. I came across this term a few years ago in one of the many books I have read. Basically, if you have multiple streams of income then you are not dependent upon any one of them if something goes wrong with one of them. I’ve been down-sized in the past and have had to reduce my own staff multiple times at my most recent employer. My being down-sized was okay but I know that it was devastating (at least emotionally if not financially) to some of the people that I had to let go. Having multiple streams of income mitigates both the financial and the emotional impacts.

Current Theme

I don’t think I am going to keep this current theme/layout. I seems to have a few bugs in it. I like it better than the default theme that comes with WordPress but it does not really make me happy. I wonder if anybody that might be reading this blog would be confused or care if the theme changes now and then? I saw a seasonal theme recently that might be fun to put up for a short time.

I am not sure if this will be my final blog theme/layout but I know that I did not like the default one that came with this blogging software (WordPress). This one is at least more pleasing to the eye, mine eye at least.

I have another couple that I am looking at so do not be surprised if the theme changes again.

I also have also just finished reading a book that is supposed to help me customize the theme and layout. I will probably be making some changes to whatever theme I finalize on. However, I need to experiment in a test site until I know that I won’t break something here.

Getting Started

I finally decided to start a blog about my investment philosophy and how I got here. Of course, I am finding it easier said than done. This is probably easier than I am making it but I am a little anal about knowing how things work.

Today I selected a host and installed the blog software. I am learning how it works and working on site organization. My next steps are to add some pages about me, my investing “model” and this blog.
